Our company is looking for a disaster recovery plan and I thought I'd ask what everyone else is using?..i.e Hosting company, replication software etc. Thanks for the info in advance.
There are so many factors that need to be considered, discussed, budgeted for and executed beyond the basics of proper backup/restore operations and data security.
Every shop is different based on thier SLAs and un written business rules.
There are many white papers, links, webinars and blogs out there for you to peruse.
I just came across a few webinars that may get you started ...
A word to the wise here ... do not take the short path and "TRY" to copy someone elses DR/HA plans as your own. You are only setting yourself up for a MAJOR disaster when the "extensive" DR/HA document that you handed management (that got you the attention and atta-boy comments) suddenly puts you in the DBA dog house because it does not reflect YOUR true production environment and there are now galring holes in the plan ... AND OF COURSE THE FIRE(s) is/are burning around you NOW!
Remember no matter what plan you implement you really need to test it and make sure it works. I have been on projects where they have a great process, until they have to use it and realise something was left out. Typically this discovery was made at a point in time where it wasn't a test but rather a we just lost a server.
