disaster recovery testing

Hello,

I need some advice. I was given the task to test backup/recovery methods I have in place for my Exchange 2003 server. I'm not sure how would be the most efficient way to go about it.

I thought about using Virtual Server 2008, setting up a entirly seperate domain with DC and Exchange server, performing the backup and restore. This seems like it could get a bit complicated...

My other thought was to use Virtual Server 2008, create a 2nd Exchange server as part of my current domain, move some mailboxes to it, backup the DB and restore.

Although Option 1 is probably the best method, is Option 2 possible without messing up the current Exchange server????

Depends on what your DR requirements are. Building something in VS isn't a true test. It merely tests the methodology. I would hardly consider it a true DR test.

You should be able to restore databases to the RSG, and handle accordingly in your production environment.

Im only required to be able to restore the database to a server....

I will look at the RSG option.
