disabling power off/wake/sleep keys

Greetings,

My company recently purchased a slew of new desktops and the guy who did the purchase didn't realize that the keyboards had power off / wake / sleep buttons on them.

We're running windows 2000 pro + sp3 on these desktops. Is there a way to disable this key with minimal work (over 200 desktops)

We checked the bios and found only ACPI options but nothing that specifically related to the keyboard features. If we disable ACPI then we'd probably get flawed power button functionality.

I know there is a reg key floating around that disables it, but it also disables the windows key...is there any way around this?

1. Who makes the systems, keyboard

2. Could it be software. Some of those keys are controled by software that has to be installed.

3. What Mb is in the system.

1) systems are OEM branded
2) no its not the software..the keyboards are aopen generic ones. I believe it has to do with windows2000 ACPI funcationality

3) mobos are ASUS

As mentioned, I could completely disable ACPI through the bios but that would create more issues as the power off and reset switches on the box may cease to operate correctly

from what I can read on some sites. the could be a jumper on the MB to disable it. The Aopen MB have that featrure. Check the MB model on Asus's web site and see if it is there

yeah i'm sure there is a jumper to do this...however, I was looking for something along the lines of a software reg hack/switch that could do this because I don't want to open up 200 cases and change jupmers on all

I also have the same problem. Win2k installed with sp3. The local user policy restricts shutdown/restart, but the keyboard buttons seem to work even when no user is logged in.
Plz help!

i still haven't solved this issue. The REG key I found that was supposed to disable it didn't work.

anyone have any ideas?
