Hi All,

I am working on a locked down version of Internet Explorer 6.0 on Windows XP. I have reoved all menus, address bar, toolbars etc to try and prevent the users gaining access to the internal workings of IE. I have been unable to remove the keyboard shortcuts however (CTRL+H for History and CTRL+E for search) and this prevents an unacceptable security risk as the users are able to access the internet.

Does anyone have any idea how I can remove access to these?

Thanks

Andrew

Im not sure i understand what you are trying to do?
Why are you using a browser if you do not want users to have access to the internet?

I say use a different browser. Go download one that only has Back, Home, Stop, and Refresh buttons with an address bar.

If using the internet is a security risk I dont want to work for your company. You could just block ports 80 and 443 in the firewall if you dont want them to use the internet....

Hi,

Basically the application I am working on is used in a call centre environment. As part of that the operators have access to one site only, which allows them to do their job more effectively - they should not be able to access the internet at large as it is not part of their job privileges. Unfortunately some of them have discovered that pressing CTRL+H or CTRL+E over-rides our default security settings and allows them to browse. It sounds a bit draconian, but the fact remains they are there to do a job, not surf the internet.

We can't change browsers because it is the official company modified browser.

Maybe you doing this the wrong way.

What about using trusted sites etc. Put only the authourised sites in a trusted zone and lock down everything else.
Or maybe a host entry of some sort to redirect all traffic to the official site

Can't be more specific as it's not a thing I've really tried, sorry

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.

If it's a company modified browser, have the company modify it some more to disable the shortcuts. :)
