There is a way to disable the 'auto sense' (apparant) feature within W2k on the NIC. Once this is disabled it makes life a lot easier when installing AD etc as you then don't require a network connection.

I know there is a way to disable the autosense function as I have done it before. I can't the article on Technet, does anyone know how I do it or where I find the article again.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Just a not for you, Disabling autosense is a good thing, but ensure that you have disabled it on your switch port as will since once you have disabled it on one side of a connection the other side will not be able to perform negotiated connection and at that point Duplex missmatches become common. A duplex missmatch will cause your system to have a network access performance that will remind you of the days when you thought 1440 was a fast modem.
