We recently let go a employee, so I disabled his user account. I then enabled his account so that I could get into his mailbox to search through some emails that upper management was asking for. I am now getting event ID 9548 and 1022. How can I link this mailbox to another user or is there a way to get this user account working again? Is it possible to delete his user account then reconnect his mailbox to the new user created with the same login name?

As far as creating a new user with the same login and it automatically working...nope! Exchange uses user SSID's to keep track. So when you delete a user and recreate it you get a different SSID.

To fix the problem, check this article out on Microsoft's site
