Does anyone know how to disable the date conversion in excel, such as when you enter a fraction:
12-1/4
It converts to=:
12/01/2004

I DO NOT want it to EVER convert unless I select it and tell it to... (for any type of string)
Is there a way, that I am overlooking, to do this?

I have Office 2002 (XP?) 10.5815.6735 SP3

MUCH thanks in advance,
-Josh S

I don't know if you can just 'turn it off', but entering a single quote at the beginning will force anything that follows to be taken as a text string. Don't worry, the single quote won't be visible in the cell - it just tells excel that you are entering a text string.

other then putting ' before your string I can't think of another way.

problem with entering a ' is that it treats it as text.
Personally, I would just utilise brackets....
12-(1/4)
should do fine....
