I have heard that disabling the Prefetch can be beneficial. I usually delete the files in C:\Windows\Prefetch monthly and there is a lot of obselete entries.

I can't see any real benefit of having a Prefetch to start off with. Is it worth disabling or should I leave it alone?

Thanks All,

Samson.

It is an arguable issue. At a minimum you should permit boot-time programs to populate the prefetch folder. For any easy way to set prefetch options, including disabling the service, and cleaning prefetch entries, I used the freeware utility "Windows XP Prefetch Clean and Control" by Jester:
