How do I disable on-board video on a Hp Pavilion 6343??
I have went into the BIOS and cant find nething that will disable it and i wanna install my new video card but i need to disable the on-board video. Please tell me how to get rid of this.

Sometimes installing the new card will disable it, sometimes there is a setting in the bios, sometimes there is a jumper on the motherboard, and sometimes you just can't disable it (except in windows Device Manager). What happens when you install the new video card?

well its a geforce 2 mx200 and when i installed it into the top PCI slot then booted the CPU the screen was black. I looked in the BIOS and couldn't find ne thing to disable it. Im thinkin i hafta do sumthin with the jumper settings but i've never messed with the jumper settings that deal with the on-board video.

I just went to that site and i don't have that chip set. In device manager under display adapters it says SiS 5598/6326. Plus i have Win2000 Professional.

I would try the same procedure as the one listed for XP. If you don't have an option in the bios to disable onboard video I'd say you'll have to do it in device manager. I assume this model didn't have an AGP slot since you are trying to add a PCI video card. Also don't forget to move your monitor cable over to the new card. (It happens frequently). Also, try a different PCI slot if all else fails.

Also, I don't know about this particular model, but some older HP's required a bios update to get an add-on PCI card to work.

I do have AGP slots and I went into the device manager and removed the driver for the on-board video and now my computer keeps restarting after the loading windows 2000 screen comes up so i think i messed up sumthin lol but hopefully i can fix it i've been so frustrated.
