What is the best way to disable a mailbox temporarily. Mailbox only not domain account.

Secondly what is the best way to disable a specific user from sending external mail but still allow them internal mail.

Thanks

1) remove the Primary NT Logon account from the mailbox

2) BASIC: add the mailbox to bar to the Reject message from box of the Delivery Restrictions tab of your IMS.
[NB: when changing the config of an IMS tab, you need to stop and restart the IMS service for the changes to take effect.]

2) BETTER: create a DL called something like Restrict External Mail, and add this to the IMS restrictions instead of adding the mailbox (don't forget to also stop and restart the service) - thereafter all you have to do is add a mailbox to the DL and it will be restricted - and you can delegate the task to an HR-type person (or Helpdesk, etc) if you wish by simply making them the owner of the DL.

Thanks ZB - if I put the user (or DL) in the Reject From list in IMS, I can see how it would stop the user sending email out but would it also stop the user getting email in from the Internet?

I guess I could also on the users Accept from only tabe put the global address list - therefore he would only accept messages from people from within the company and also cant send out because of what we did above.

What you think?

You are correct that this only stops the users ending out to the Internet. This works for some peole, as even if they receive external email, they cannot reply. But it doesn't stop them signing up to dozens of email newsletters and sitting there reading them all day!

The simplest way of stopping someone receiving external email is to delete their SMTP address from the mailbox.

Nice one - thanks ZB
