I'm want to connect my laptop to my pc with Cat 5 ethernet cable but I can't find how to do it on the net. There is loads on parallel and serial connections not on Cat 5?

I know I use a cross over cable and enable DCC on the machines but thats all.

Please help

When there is no hub/switch and you are connecting
2 and only 2 PC thru nic's, you would use a cross
over ethernet cable. If you are connecting to a network
there should be hub/switch available and you should use
ordinary ethernet cables.

You can't use direct cable connection with cat 5. To use cat 5 you must have a network card (NIC) in each machine and use either crossover cable without a hub or standard cable with a hub. You must then setup your network. This is not particularly difficult but is too much to go into here, suggest you go to:
