Is there any way on a Definity to perform digit translation?

I would like to dial a special FAC code and based upon the digits dialed, have other digits inserted and sent out. So lets say I have #95-7400 and I want this converted to dial 182-111-7400. In another case I want to be able to dial #95-6800 and translate that to dial 183-111-6800. Is this possible? -Bunkman

Yes, you can do it using AAR digit conversion. I'm just leaving the office, send me an e-mail to address below, and I'll tell you how to it. Paul Beddows

The only issue is that you can't use # in the conversion table (only digits 0-9). It looks like you're trying to 95XX as steering codes to different sites or adjuncts. If you can get away from starting with # and example is below:

change aar digit-conversion 9 Page 1 of 2 SPE A

9568 6 6 2 183111 ars y n

Darn! I was afraid you were going to say that.

As for what I'm trying to do, I have a Definity Hub with two Merlin Legend nodes and I want to centralize voice mail at the hub. Avaya has a Configuration note that states that you can light MW lamps across the PRI using a single pair of LWC codes.

I'm finding out this is false and a TAC code must be used along with the Legend MW codes (#53-#*53)

So in my case, I would want to convert digits like this:

121-76XX converted to 182-#53-76XX to turn on at the remote site
122-76XX converted to 182-#*53-76XX to turn off at the remote site.

One more thing to keep in mind is that I would want to use 121-69XX for LWC send a message and 122-69XX to cancel a message on the Hub. I imagine that these codes would also be put through AAR but I wouldn't replace digits.

I wonder if I would be able to do further digit conversion on the Merlin Legend? I'll have to look into that.... -Bunkman

You can use LWC over the PRI D-channel if your Definity is a 8.3 or higher, and certain RTU's are turned on. They are: ISDN-PRI, Mode Code for Centralized Voice Mail, Mode Code Interface, Private Networking, and Uniform Dialing Plan. You also need to have an Intuity set for mode code intergration. With any thing else I think you will be just spinning your wheels.

How does the LWC code get sent to the Legend? The Legend has a fixed code and is different than the Definity. Is it converted somehow?

We've got all of those RTU's turned on according to our Business Partner, and our the Definity hub is a 10. The Legends are also the appropriate releases. When we try to dial the LWC code and then the extension number of the remote site, we get a fast busy.

That's when I was told we must use a TAC code and then use the Legend MW codes.

But I haven't got that to work yet either. -Bunkman

Yeah, they are right a * is OK in the conversion table, but a # is not. I was wondering if it might be possible to force these calls onto their own Route Pattern. You can insert a # there. Paul Beddows

The LWC is sent over the D-channel on the PRI. On an R10 Definity check page 3 on the disp sys cust form, the forth item from the top right: Mode Code for Centralized Voice Mail. Make sure it is flagged for yes.

Check the UDP SwNum on the Legends to make sure they are set.

Make sure you dial the Definity LWC code, not #53.

Redphone,

Do you currently have this working somewhere? I'm curious to see if you can send a LWC message from your phone to a remote site by dialing the LWC access code.

When I do it from a phone which has LWC activation turned on, once I put in the remote extension number, I get a fast busy.

It seems that the station needs to be a VMI administered set in order to send LWC over the D-Channel. Only problem is we're trying to test it on a Legend that currently has a Merlin Messaging system connected and the MW lamp will not go on when we dial the code. But at least we're not getting the fast busy so I'm feeling we're getting somewhere. -Bunkman
