Have IIS on a server with a web site pointing to an internal ip address. all pc's can then ping this site by name and get the correct ip address. The server however gets a differnt ip address to the ping. There is no hosts or lmhosts file and the nslookup gives the correct address. what else could be effecting this?

From my understanding clients ping the server's domain name and get an internal IP address back but if you ping the domain name from the web server itself it gets a different IP address?

If so, you probably have the web server configured to resolve domain names using a different DNS server from the client or if it has multiple NICs then the primary NIC maybe responding to the ping.
