Hi all,

Somebody knows why the length of the MSI file generated in Windows Vista is bigger that the generated in Windows XP? When I compiled my system in Windows XP, the length is 7Mb. But, when I compiled it in the Windows Vista, the size goes up to 15Mb.
I already verified all options in the "Tools/Options…", and have the same choices in the two environments.

Thanks,

It may add another install root for pre Vista. In other words, it might create install packages for 2000/XP and another for Vista. This would account for it being double the size.

Thanks cjelec,

But do not have any way to do a MSI file for Windows XP/2000 only?

Not that I know of, I still only have XP.

Is there a problem creating this MSI file containing both versions?

I would personally have it created with both versions, so that if/when someone installs it on a Vista machine, it will contain the right script for installation.

Hi cjelec,

My problem is that new versions are distributed through email. But, my customer's limit for email size is 8Mb.

Anyway, thank you so much.

Have you thought about distributing the file using a web or ftp server?

Isn't there a compiler option to specify the OS?

If not though, so long as you are not adding new references, you can distribute just the libraries and have them overwrite the old version with the new libraries. Not quite as handy as an MSI that does all the work for ya, but it's a lot easier to distribute 500k of CLI compiled .Net libraries than it is to distribute 15MB of installer packages.

Thanks Christiaan, but I need that MSI file is only one file. The persons that receive the email do not have much knowledge in computer tools.

Thanks cjelec, today I can not distribute the file using a web or ftp server, only email.

Thanks Rick, but I think that I'm not including any unnecessary library.

It's nonsense, but I think that the only way is build in Windows XP.
