Differences in audio specifications 2.0 and 2.1

I Just want to find out what exactly the difference is between the different audio specifications. I have a Logitech X120 Stereo Speakers and they sound awesome. What's the difference between 2.0 and 2.1 speakers? Will I notice a difference? Is there somewhere I can go to learn more about this?

I believe the .1 part as in 2.1 defines the subwoofer part so 2.1 is 2 normal satalite speakers and 1 subwoofer and 5.1 is 5 normal speakers and 1 subwoofer.
