Hi.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any problems when running an Access database created in Access 2000 and running it with Access 2002?

I have been working on an Access 2000 project (let's call it Version 1) and copied it to a computer running Access 2002. I then installed an updated version (Version 2) on the same computer. Each works fine by itself but I then tried to export a copy of one of the tables from Version 1 to Version 2 and kept getting error messages (Key not identified or something like that). I also got error messages trying to run a Compact and Repair. When I tried to do both of the above on a machine running Access 2000, all worked fine.

Anyone else run into any problems?

TIA

K

K,

Not directly an answer to your question, but...

I'm using Access 2000 with SQL 7 and have had numerous issues. Since my skill level is Novice or so, I began by assuming most issues were of my own making. Turns out that Access projects, first available with Access 2000, needed polish.

See

Your mileage may vary, but following the guidelines in faq181-2886 will help you reach your goal.

I have had similar problems. I have a database in Access 2000 that we sent to many of our remote field sites. When the folks with Access 2002 open the database, everything appears to work fine until they get to a specific form....

They receive the error of something to the effect of "Access cannot complete the requested action because it would create duplicates in the primary key..." yadda yadda yadda....

When they e-mail it back to me though, I can enter the data just fine... then when I e-mail it back to them they have no problems. Can't quite seem to figure it out...

For the clarification to readers of this thread, when I posted the hotlink:

possibly the most signicant dialogue is about a third of the way in, and following is a copy.

Q: AndyG: Are there major functional or procedural differences for accessing SQL from Access XP vs. Access2K?

Host Guest_Bill_Ramos_MS
A: Huge. Access XP now has extended property support against SQL Server 2000. This gives you lookup support, caption text, all the goodies that you get against Jet. We also have a new stored procedure designer for making action queries.

A: cont. - We also fixed a bunch of bugs with regards to maintaining cursors in your application when changing a sort or filter condition.

A: cont. - If you want to use ADPs, you really need to use Access 2002 (XP)
