I know this is the HTML folder, but I can't seem to get an answer in the other folder, so I thought I'd try here.

Can someone please explain to me what the difference is in getting a domain name registered with a service that charges $6.95 or $9.95 and one that charges $75.00? Also, is there any registration service that you could recomend? Regards,

Hi mate,

Mostly the price is the only difference but a lot of the time, you get extra features with different registers. The only problem is that you may not ever use these..

Email accounts
Domain Forwarding etc..

If you host the domain on other nameservers then you will not be able to use these features..

To recommend a register, I guess it depends what extension it is that you require..

Hope this helps Wullie

BTW, the proper term is REGISTRAR. A register is something else altogether. You could also say registerer, but that's cumbersome.

I know registerer isn't a word, but it was fun to include it. I had to throw you a bone. :)

I saw that you plugged my program. I'd have said thanks, but that might not have been appropriate. However, since this thread seems to have gone to heck anyway: Thanks!

I am not so convinced anymore that the difference is just money. I re-registered a domain last November, paid for it, got the receipt, etc.

Then about a month ago we were going through the whois for all our domain names, so we could print out the info. When we got to that name, we found that *someone else* took it from us 3 weeks *AFTER* we paid for it.

So I wrote to this so-called registrar, dollardomainname.com, and said what the h*** is going on here. I got this message back:

"Unfortunately, your domain name renewal failed. Your domain name has been registered to someone else. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused."

Again I emphasize - we owned this name, we re-registered it, and WE paid for it. So beware of dollardomainname.com, and be careful to protect the names that you already have.

This may end up in court.
