what is the difference between the slot and sockets....is the slot more cool because it bigger and more expanded, and also because the heatsink is a lot bigger than sockets? And why do most people use sockets?

The Slot adapter was Intels way of moving the external Cache closer to the processor for faster speeds. (Basic sum up there)
The Socket 370 or Socket A chipset is much better for the chip now has the external cache now integrated on to the processor for fatser speed. Also the actaul chip itself is smaller making faster and more power saving (sounds funny).
The Socket 370 is the intel chip and the Socket A is the AMD chip.
Does this help or is it even more confusing? James Collins

hey that helps a lot!....at least it wasnt like a 4 page reply with computer terms written as every word! i've had that before and i was didnt even bother to read psat the first paragraph..thanks for making it simple

If I remember correctly, I believe the Pentium II slot processors was also as a side bonus an attempt to push back AMD and their socket CPU's, then once AMD started developing the slot Athlon, the rumor was that intel would call the slot processor design inferior and continue again with socket processors.
