I find it really annoying when printing something off the internet and going to the printer only to find that it is requesting a different paper size and then having to feed it in through the manual feeder (which, thankfully overrides whatever Automatically Select has selected)

There seem to be two similar options for printing:

Automatically select
Auto select

I don't know if this is correct

Automatically select appears to select the paper type based on the document. If the document is set up for Quarto, it select quarto regardless of whether the printer has it or not.

Automatically select appears to select the default set up for the printer.

If this analysis is correct, how do I force it to be always Auto Select instead of Automatically Select?

If I understand the question correctly, the way to resolve this is to make sure you have selected the correct paper size in the page setup menu, located under the File menu.

If your page size is set to say 'letter' but your printer only has A4 it cant automatically select the correct paper type\source and will prompt user intervention.

Automatically select refers to the paper source(Tray). Basically you need your document defaults to match your printer defaults.

Hope this helps

The problem seems to be with IE. Word and Excel are OK. I don't know why but even when I default everything to A4, Automatically select picks letter. I don't know how to force the selection to be always Auto Select instead of Automatically select.
