Did i overwrite my old partition? I only have 20 gigs left of disk spa

:'( I have a 40 gig hard disk, I recently... reinstalled my windows xp , but i wanted to delete or format my whole computer... and start it clean... but now... i looked at my disk space.. .and it seems i still have 20 gigs of memory used... I thought i commanded to overwrite that partition.... apparently it didint... what should i do to delete it?

run FDISK and look what partitions are there, you can do that with booting from your XP CD or any other bootable disk.
