I installed XP from ME my dialup worked fine in ME.
Now when I use the dialup the modem dials I can hear
some static but I never get the handshake. I have tried
different numbers same thing no handshake. My 98 pc
logs on fine with the same phone numbers.
Any Help Please
I have a HP Pavilion 7855 1 gig/128/20 meg hd/1 cdr/ 1cdrw
I beleve my ISP is NT

I'm a bit confused...you're using XP now or ME?
(Must be ME 'cause you posted here!)
If you use a shortcut from Dial Up Networking instead of the IE dialer...you'll get error messages that may help you troubleshoot. Go to Dialup Networking in either Control Panel or Windoze Explorer (M$ moved it around in different OS) open it and double click on the icon for your connection. Try connecting and if it fails it may offer a details look at the error or failure.
Doublecheck all your settings...the seemingly simplest of errors will kaputz it...
You may also verify your modem is installed correctly and OUGHT to be working by going to the Modem Icon in Control Panel and click on the Diagnostics tab...highlight your connection and click more info...and it'll test comm for you. Scroll down in the dialog box to see any errors.
If this doesn't sort it out, you may be better off to work with the support ppl at NT...and you need to know who your ISP is...(end of fatherly advice)
May well be driver problems...but some of these troubleshooting methods may help you discover that.

I found the problem XP does not support the Lucent modems
in about all of the HP Pavilion. And I can't find
any drivers for it. I think I will buy a new modem there
cheap any ways.
Thanks anyways
