I have a windows2000 server 1.4ghz and 512mb
With a hardwae USR 56k modem, the problem is that you need to have configured dial in modems to get that speed.
This hardware is far too expensive to put on my server.
I can still only dial into my server and use it as an ISP at about 28k .
I will say that having a faster server with a bunch of mb does help the performance of the dial in user.
I have tried this on a windows2000 server with a 450mhz and 128mb 56k usr and the LAG was terrible.
I have 1Ghz processor, and 256MBram, with a US Robotics 56k modem. I connect at a constant speed of 45.2kps, and it runs quite well. I suggest lowering the baud on your 33.6, and adding an init string to your modem. Seemed to help me just fine
go to control panel, then into phone and modem...click on modems, then diagnostics, then properties. lower the baud one notch, then click on advanced. In the extra settings, type in AT&F. Try that and see what happens
Sorry to contridict you guys.......
The modem speed does make a difference, with a 33.600 you will get on average 28 connection. With a 56k modem your average is about 45 as was mentioned.
The speed of your server does not have that a great impact on it, depending what the server does during production.
The slower your modem the slower your connection speed, unless you go with multi link modems.
You also need to open your ports when installing your modem.
