We have an IP412 system in our main office and a IP406 in a remote office. They are connected via SCN. Voicemail is centralized at the main office, using VMPro. Both systems are using version 3.1 (65).

When someone calls the main office and uses the dial by name feature in VMPro, the only names that are valid are the names of users in the remote site. None of the local users are in the list. How can that be? Is there a known bug? Is there some testing I might be able to do to track down the cause?

Thanks for the help.

PS: I would have used the search function for the forum, but it hasn't worked for me in weeks. Has anyone else noticed it?

google search will entail tek-tips as well as the rest off the net, try that.

What specific action is being used in the call flow in VMPRO? Is it dial by name, or call list? Also, what are the specific tabs showing?

For a user to be included in the dial by name list, they must:

Have recorded a mailbox name.

Not be marked as ex-directory.

Thanks for the help,
VMPro is setup to use the Dial by first name module. All our users have recorded a mailbox name and are not excluded in the directory. I've been trying to find any difference between the VM setup for the extensions in our remote location and the ones in our main location. I'm coming up blank. It "should" all work. I'm not sure why it doesn't.

Try creating a new user and record the name, you could possibly have corruption in your cfg.

I have no idea why, but the dial by name is now working. We did a few configuration changes, but nothing out of the ordinary. I checked it a few days ago and it didn't work, but today it OK. Maybe the numerous reboots we needed to do for the extension changes I made somehow cleared whatever problem there was. Another mystery...

Thanks for the help,
Tom

Well, it appears that every time the phone system is rebooted, the dial by name feature stops working. I have to go in and restart the VM pro service to get it working. The service says it is running, but I still need to restart it for the dial by name function to work.
Anyone else see this?

Re-install VMPRO. Check the VM addy in the system tab, and that the setting is correct for VM type.
