Anyone have experience running this utility form the NT resource kit? I am getting an error everytime I try to run it ( I am not running it on the DHCP Server itself) I get the following error when I run- dhcploc d
OpenreceiveSocket failed 10049

All the time?!?! I need to find this Rougue DHCP Server, all my clients are bombing out and getting NACK errors and I am going nuts assigning static IP's. ALL help is appreciated :)

Can't you stop your (valid) DHCP server temporarily, go to a client and do an

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /all

and see the "DHCP Server" listing as to what (invalid) server has given you the IP address? [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K

I get DHCP Server unreachable, my guess is that I have a rogue DHCP server on a different Subnet. If that is not the case my DHCP Server is just hosed. I gues I can try to stop the DHCP Service on the original server install DHCP on another server and bring up the same scope? How would my clients react to that, would they just try to renew their IP Address with the new DHCP server? My guess is that the DHCP MDB file is jacked up. So I am learly of reintroducing that database to the new DHCP Server. any suggestions?

You can set a new DHCP server up if you like, just make sure you turn on Collision Detection (so the server will ping the IP address it is about to give out, to make sure it's not alive on the network).

If you look at Active Leases in DHCP Manager, you can run the Reconsile program which will do a consistancy check of the DB against the Registry. This may turn up some inconsistancies.

Is there anything specific in the event viewer in regards to the NACK messages? [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K
