DHCP Superscope problems

I have DHCP running on my W2k Domain with scope 1.

I created a superscope and added a scope.
My DHCP server as an IP 192.168.0.1
and DNS are 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.201

So now I have scope 1 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254
And scope 2 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254
I set scope 2 with the same DNS servers and gateway that scope 1.

For some reasons the IP’s that are leased from the scope 2 can’t browse the network and can’t go online.

Thanks for the help

What does ipconfig /all tell you? I know it sounds simple, but sometimes it's the simple things that are goofy. Good luck. Glen A. Johnson

ipconfig /all tels me the right info.
ip 192.168.1.2
dhcp 192.168.0.1
dns 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.201
right subnet mask
It all looks good...

Is that from a server or a problem machine. Can you take a problem machine and give it a fixed IP and see what happens? Good luck. Glen A. Johnson

that ipconfig /all results are from a work station. that same work station works fine with a static or dynamic IP in the range on scope 1

but when getting a dynamic IP, it cannot browse the internet or the network.

How about a problem machine? That's where we need to look. Give a problem pc a static ip and let us know what happens. Glen A. Johnson

36mis,

You said, "I set scope 2 with the same DNS servers and gateway that scope 1."

Unless I am missing something here how can you expect a client with an IP address in the 192.168.1.x/24 range to communicate with a DNS server or gateway in the 192.168.0.x/24 range?

I must be missing something here...

36mis,

Well admittedly this is not an area of expertise for me but I would think that if you have your router configured with multiple addresses to support superscopes, than the scope options for the 192.168.1.x should hand out a default gateway in that subnet, i.e., 192.168.1.1 and the scope options for the 192.168.0.x should hand out a default gateway in that subnet, i.e., 192.168.0.1.

Any superscope gurus out there?

Patty

Fixed IP in range 192.168.0.x will work
fixed IP in range 192.168.1.x will not

Good, now we're getting closer. Set up a machine with dhcp on the scope that doesn't work, and ipconfig /all the problem pc. Good luck. (FYI, GrnEyedLdy is correct. Subnetting has to be the most difficult thing to figure out. At least it is for me. I still don't have a real good feel for sub-netting. Need to do more homework.) Glen A. Johnson

I did that already, and like I said earlier the results are good

ipconfig /all tels me the right info.
ip 192.168.1.2
dhcp 192.168.0.1
dns 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.201
right subnet mask
It all looks good...
