Anyone know of some DHCP server software that will run on Windows XP?

Every time I try to search for something I get 10,000 hits from people having DHCP issues with Win XP.

Thanks!

Buy a hardware router. This, along with NAT, will provide a hardware-based DHCP server. Linksys, D-Link, SMC, Netgear, Cisco and others offer suprisingly inexpensive broadband routers to handle this chore.

Thanks for your reply but it is a little more complicated than that.

First of all, at least for the Linksys (which I have a fair bit of experience with), it serves up too small a address pool ... it is limited to a 255.255.255.0 subnet mask which will only give me about 253 address max. On top of that, it also sets itself as the gateway and DNS servers which are not the case and will cause problems.

I am setting up a series of small and fairly unique wireless networks. For the larger ones we have a full Win2K server for our Radius authentification and it has full DHCP capabilities. The problem is that the smaller networks don't justify the cost of Win2K Server and we'd like to get away with WinXP ... but it doesn't have the DHCP capabilities.

Any other suggestions for a software DHCP server that runs on WinXP?

My point was that you do not need to go beyound a Class C DHCP addressing schema for the smaller lans. I was not proposing using a linksys broadband router for all lan segments.

These are private LAN addresses you are assinging, with NAT.

If you need RADIUS authentication of all clients, I strongly recommend you see what Funk Software has created with its Odyssey software.
