Hi there,

Our small firm (~30 wrkst) has used one of our routers as a DHCP server. I'm planning to run it on the W2K DC instead with the same scope.

Now, from what I read Microsoft this procedure which includes creating superscopes, etc. Can I just start DHCP services on the DC overnight and turn off the the ones on the router? Then I'll just restart all our workstations to obtain new leases. That shoud take care of it, right?

Thanks,
oleg

Here is what I would do.
- On the router set current DHCP lease time for 5 Min.
- Build Scope on Server (No need for a superscope)
- Assign scope options (DNS, WINS, Mask, Gateway, etc..)
- Turn off DHCP scope on router
- Authorize and activate new scope on server
- Workstations will pick up new leases

There is a rare instance where you might need to do a release and renew, but for the most part the workstations should pick up new leases right away.
