Recently I have been getting NACK errors in my event log and renewing my lease has been a major PITA. I dont know what is going on here. I know the error can happen with 2 DHCP server son different subnets. I have 2 subnets but the second subnet is all static IP addresses and no server let alone DHCP server (on that subnet). I reinstalled SP6a on my DHCP server and rebooted and it seemed to solve the prob for a couple leases but every time someone tries to renew a lease it gives the client an access denied error and wont renew the adapter. Then I have to reboot the server. This is getting old as the the DHCP server is also a file server and kicking people off their files to reboot is not cutting it! Any ideas fellas????

More than likely this is happening on your laptop users. What is happening is a user is going home and logging onto a cable modem, DSL or SOHO network. The are maintaining the IP from the last logon and it's not being released. You will mostly see this on Win9x boxes but it will happen on 2K boxes also. What you have to do is release the ip on the client and then reboot. I know there is a hotfox for win9x to force it to release the ip on log off. I can't remeber what the fix was for NT/2k but if I run across it I'll post back.

Thanks for the response, but it seems to be happening on Desktops as well as laptops ( I dont have many laptop users) I will try releasing and rebooting the client. I tried releeasing and renewing in at the same time but not one then the other. Thanks and if you do come across the fix for NT 2K I'd appreciate it.
