I have setup a Ubuntu system, with Transparent Proxy set for our hotel network. Hence, we are able to display them a Captive Portal, and authorize them before allowing them access to internet.
My Query is this.
We have guests coming in with their corporate laptops, which has proxy and IP address manually set into it, with no Admin permission to those systems.
Hence how does these providers of Internet Gateway solutions, for such industry manage to achieve this, even when a laptop is conected to their network with a different dhcp subnet / ip and proxy set. they can still access and browse through these gateway network.
I believe, it has something to do with how the DHCP and Bind services are set.
Is there anyone who can help me understand these concept?
