DHCP Querie / Help needed.

I work for a University.

Right, the students living in the local residencies here have network points in their rooms, we register their cards with our database that then gets exported to the win2k DHCP servers. ok

Some of the little bastards are nicking other peoples IP addresses by typing it in manually instead of using DHCP, this then causes conflicts with the real owners of that IP. How can I stop people using a different IP to the one they are assigned?

Group policy to dissalow changes to the network properties, but if they are not using windows 2000 or the machines are theirs and not yours it is going to be very hard to make them comply.

I remembered vaguely something about using reserved addresses. These match the MAC to the ip. This might be a help to you. Try Win 2000 server help. Its pretty clear. Of course it sort of defeats the ease of using DHCP.

I'm thinking though that you may have to implement some kind of "punishment" system. I don't know how your network is set up, but an example of what I'm saying may be turning off network access at the switch port (temporarily) to any dorm room that steals an IP....if they continue, just disable them indefinitely.
