Hi all,

I'm having the oddest problem since I reloaded my dhcp server with my dhcp clients. Some of the clients show the gateway as there own IP address and others work fine. I hooked up a brand new Dell GX520 that had never been on my network before and it received the dhcp info just fine. On the systems that have the problem I've assaigned a static address, rebooted, enabled dhcp again and reboot to try any clear any old data and it still shows the gateway as the clients IP address.

I've unauthorized the server, deleted and recreated the scope and reauthorized the server with no change in the problem.

I've searched and haven't been able to find a fix.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tom

what happens when you do a ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew on the dhcp affected machines?

It gets an IP address but the gateway is the same as the assigned IP address. This doesn't happen on all computer.

Does it happen to computers on the same subnet? or random computers on different subnets?

All the computers are on the same /22 subnet.

I have a ton Dell Optiplex GX620's and I have some odd things happen to them as well. The way I fixed it was Power Down, Unplug the Power cable and Network cable, then plug everything back in and turn it on.

Why it works or how it works is still a mystery to me, but I spent about 4 hours on that problem and I figured it worked when I first plugged it in. So I unplugged everything, pretended like it was new, and it worked. I can't guranteed anything, because y company sends Dell a custom ghost image of Win XP and I think that something happens to the ghosted machines. But I would be curious to see if that works for you.

In DHCP, open the Scope for the 22 subnet. You should see Address Pool, Address Leases, Reservations, and Scope Options. In Scope Options you will see many entries, what you are looking for is '003 Router.' if this entry exits make sure it is pointing to the proper gatway. e.g. 192.168.22.1
If it is blank configure it for the gateway, if it doesn't exist created it...

Beau71,

I'll try that. Thanks!

WhoKilledKenny,

Option 003 is set to the correct IP. Thanks!

Isn't the DHCP database a jet database? If so, you can use jetpack.exe to rebuild it if you have corruption. I've also seen deleting the DHCP database and letting it rebuild from scratch solve issues.

Start, Help. You'll be surprised what's there. A+/MCP/MCSE/MCDBA
