I was wondering I have a w2k server running rras and nat, will any dhcp requests get past that server? One server nic is plugged into a switch with the clients and the other nic is plugged into a switch with the rest of the network.

did you mean 255.255.0.0 ?

But yes, dhcp requests are subnet bound, unless you've configured routing to allow passing of broadcasts.....

it's not good to allow broadcasts. It's better to set up a DHCP Relay agent on a router.

Why is that Victor? Just curious. Thanks. Glen A. Johnson

You're right Victor, I was assuming he does not have a router...

Glen, allowing broadcasts across subnets could saturate the networks and slow communications down...

Thanks, I've not dealt much with dealing across subnets, so this is good to know. Glen A. Johnson

I have configured no means of dhcp requests to traverse the win2k router and that was what I was hoping for. I was trying to keep the broadcast traffic within the subnet and it sounds like my config will accomplish that.

Thanks to everybody.
