Here is the low down. I recently removed a windows XP Pro computer from a LAN network and wanted to set it up to connect directly to a dial up ISP. Before I installed the new modem I disabled the old network connection and I ran Adware. Adware removed a bunch of stuff and then I ran Norton’s windows fix program. Norton found only one error. mscoree.dll was missing. Since I had no internet connection to search to find what this error really meant I rebooted and physically installed the modem. At this time Norton Virus email scan said that my TCP/IP was not installed. I could connect to the dial up ISP network but I could not connect to “internet”. I went to work the next day and downloaded an mscoree.dll from and I threw the dll file into my systems folder and ran the Winsockfix program and I thought my troubles were over. The Norton windows fix error went away, the Norton virus email TCP/IP uninstalled error went away and I could connect to the Internet, for a while at least.
My connection to the internet would work for a while then it would stop. Viewing the XP network graph during the transition from working internet to no internet I could see that even when I didn’t have any internet small amounts of packets were going to and from my computer but I didn’t have any internet. If I disconnect and redial I will have Internet for a while until it stops working again. I uninstalled both modem and LAN device removed them physically and rebooted and replaced only the modem. The same thing happened again. I also ran ispconfig/all and this was the output. It was the same before and after internet is lost.

DHCP disabled caught my eye and I made sure my tcpip settings were set to obtain ip address automatically which it was. Now I’m stuck. No ideas really. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks is advance

If i was having problems with any of my other hardware the first thing i would have done would be to update my drivers. Well.. I updated my modem drivers and it seems to be working correctly now. Who knows what was really going on.
