We currently have a need to change our IP address range so step one is to move the Internal machine addresses to a new DHCP scope.
we have set up the two scopes in parralell for testing
scope 1 (old) 193.x.y. 2-254
scope 2 (New) 10.x.y. 2-254
scope 2 excluded range 3-254
scope 2 reserved 10.x.y.2 for specific Mac address
All routing has been checked by using a static ip address

when we release the test PC's address in the 193.x.y.z range we cant get it to use the resered address in the new range

I presume you're doing a /renew after the release as well? If so do you get an error?

I always configure the client as a static IP if we use a reservation for it so I'm not familiar with problems of cleints detecting reservations made on their behalf.

yes we do a renew but it keeps resorting back to the address in the old range 193.x.y.z
during testing we cant turn off the old range that is why we use the reserved address in the new range to stop a stray picking it up.
after doing the renew ther are no entries in the local machines event logs or in the servers logs saying why there was a problem with the reserved id

Problem solved
Needed to set up superscope including both address ranges
