Hi

We have a PDC running DHCP distributing an IP scope to 30 PC's and 2 Apple Mac's.

There are no problems with the PC's but when I boot up the Macs, the second one always throws up a error saying that the IP address is already in use and displays the physical (MAC) address of the offending node - needless to say, the offender is the first Mac.

Does anyone know why it does this?

Thanks for any comments,

Graham

Might want to try viewing the active leases in DHCP Manager, and deleting the leases on both Macs. If they still want the same IP, maybe try adding reservations for them. If they don't take the reservations correctly, perhaps the DHCP client on the Macs isn't working. Marc Creviere

This is a known issue with the Macs. The DHCP client on the Mac requests an IP address but after the offer it doesn't seem to get listed as in use in DHCP. When a PC picks it up, you get the duplicate and then DHCP notices the Mac...

To get around this use either reservations or set the Macs manually.

Upgrade the Mac OS past 8.5 I think it is and the problem seems to go away. In TCPIP on the Mac set it to advanced and in the options ensure that TCPIP is set to always on (uncheck the load only when needed).
