We have a small peer to peer network (5 PC's) that access the internet via a broadband router, this router is also a DHCP Server. My question is, should the DHCP and DNS Client services be disabled on all the PC's on the network as the router is issuing all IP addresses.

Then they will have no IP addresses, and no DNS. These are client not server services.

If you use static IPs you could disable DHCP client services. The DNS client server handles catching and DNS forwarder service. You most certainly do no want to disable this service.

Well, if you put it like that, I guess I'll keep the services. I really don't know why I thought I could disable em in the first place. Thanks bcastner.

For a good discussion of what services can, and should be played with:

Black Viper's Site:

Elder Geek Services Guide:

These may or may not appear XP-centric, but the discussion certainly includes Win2k for any particular service.

(Note: Black Viper has a registry patch to restore services to their defaults if you really screw up)

Best,
Bill Castner

Thanks for the links, the Elder Geek (I love that) site looks really useful, I like the 'real world' discriptions. Have a star bcastner for the useful links.
