A user of mine's laptop crashed during a virus scan and since then it was stuck in a continuous reboot cycle until I had it boot in Last Known Good Configuration. Safe mode would not work either.

Now the laptop is running, however, the DHCP Client service will not start with the error: "Could not start DHCP Client service on local computer. Error 1075: The dependency does not exist or has been marked for deletion."

I have check the dependencies for this service and they show Print Spooler (which is running) and AFD Networking Support Environment. I can not find this AFD as service. What is it? MS Technet does not seem to have the answer. Can anyone help please!?!

I'd boot to the XP cd and do a repair install.

Good luck,

Thanks for the tips guys. However, I tried the repair installation and all the other DHCP tips in the link and had no luck. XP will not let you remove TCP/IP, so I tried uninstall/reinstll the NIC. Same problem. Also in the registry under DependOnSevice it has no mention of SYMTDI or NISDRV. Hmmm.... so I just had to reimage.
