I'm trying to assign myself a static ip address when coming in from home.

Setup at home

Wireless laptop -> smc wireless router -> cable modem

I get into my network via a vpn. I've added the mac address of my wireless card, but that doesn't work... doesn't even show up in the active leases. The mac address of my router doesn't show.. I'm not sure how to get the mac address of the cable/modem, not even sure if that is how to do it.

I'm also a bit confused because when logged in my ipconfig still shows an ip address from my ISP. How does the IP from the ISP relate to my internal network?

thanks,

laura
