Hi,

I have the following situation:

3 servers with department data which I would like to access through 1 singe name,
At the moment we have setup DFS links for all folders at all three servers to make it possible to view the whole directory structure.

This is quite a lot of work and I thought it could be setup easier.

Is there a way to setup it up that every newly created ntfs folder is automatically visible through the DFS link ?

something like this:

server shares :
server1\data1
server2\data2
server3\data3

and I would like to have is visible like this :

dfs link : \\domain.com\data

data1
data2
data3

any suggestions ?

thanks

Yes if:

server shares :
server1\data
server2\data
server3\data

and I would like to have is visible like this :

dfs link : \\domain.com\data

Inside data folder:

data1
data2
data3

So each server is:

server1\data\data1
server1\data\data2
server1\data\data3

server2\data\data1
server2\data\data2
server2\data\data3

server3\data\data1
server3\data\data2
server3\data\data3

That is not exactly what I want, I do want to get access to all data folders through one single UNC path like : \\domain.com\share

but I don't want any kind of replication between the servers, the data on server1,server2 and server3 should stay on it's own server.

any way to make this possible ?

Just set your dfs links to point to data1,2,3 on each of the separate servers and put those links under \\servername\data

I'm Certifiable, not certified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

If I would do that, when I would access the data through the DFS name \\domain.com\data it would connect me to one of the three servers and I would only be able to see the data on that server.

I would like to see all data on all servers when I connect to that UNC path.

any other sollutions ?

I can't get what you want, what about this:

\\domain.com\data

inside the data is 'shortcut to data1', 'shortcut to data2', 'shortcut to data3'.
