We have 10 offices that have DCs and File Servers (75% have been upgraded to Win2k3). Each file server has four shares for the users ("shared", "Projects", "Users", "Support") though the exact contents of each vary from office to office.
I would like to use DFS so that user could access each type of share from a common path. \\domain\shared\..., \\domain\projects\..., etc.
for projects, for example, there would be \\domain\projects\office1, \\domain\projects\office2, \\domain\projects\office3, etc.
If I understand correctly, I want to setup multiple domain roots. Right?
Apparently, though, I can't have more than one domain root hosted by a given machine.
Since the DFS 'structure' is replicated by AD, does it really matter what server in my enterprise the domain root is hosted on? So if I just arbitrarily pick four of my servers, and each one hosts a domain root, will that work?
I'm not loooking for file replication or fault tolerance, I'm just trying to consolidate paths.
Thanks
