Ok, I have been impressed with DFS on the network so far. Love the replication feature and have been using it for Home folder locations and many other shared folders. My new question is can DFS replication work on a shared folder that contains an application that is run over the network. Teachers here use a program to enter their grade books. The app is run over the network through a shortcut that points them to the network share. If I establish DFS with this share and create a replicated share somewhere else on the network and the main share goes down, will the replicated one work? I know so far replication and fault tolerance has worked on basic word and excel files, but will it work here?

If not the whole folder than can I filter out what I want replicated such as the teacher gradebook files?

Thanks for all the help and aftertaf, thanks in advance.

be careful when using DFS for files that remain open for a long time...
you could use dfs in this case, it hink so in any case, but manage replication of this child node manually, don't schedule it to replicate when changes occur...

then again, depends on how appli works.
whether its 1 .exe file by itself, or with a lot of other data files that are locked when the .exe is running...
TEST!

if its not broken, fix it anyway - with luck you might break it and have an excuse
