I have Brightstor Arcserve 9.0 Build 2052, installed on Windows 2003 Server SP1.

When I try and Mount/Inventory or any other commands from the Device tab, a message pops up saying that 'The Device is offline'.

I shut down the Tape Drive & Server, started the Tape drive, waited for it to initialise, waited another couple of minutes, the powered on the Server - still same message. I've done this twice now.

Can anyone suggest how to fix?

Thanks

From where are you accessing the device tab? If you are running the manager on a workstation running WinXP, I've had the same problem and I was told by CA tech support that it is a workstation issue. Try running the manager on the server console and see if it works.

I had to reinstall the manager on my workstation in order to get it to work, but that only lasted a week and now I get the same message again.

I'm trying to access the Device tab from a PC Anywhere session on the Server itself.

I've already power cycled the tape drive while the server is shut down, to no avail..

From within the OS Device Manager make sure the library and drives are disabled.

In Device Manager on the Server?? Disable the Tape drive?

When I eject the tapes and load them in again, the Status od the tapes in Arcserve/Device - shows as <slot: 1><updating...> for all slots - this stays like this indefinitly.

I still get the same message if I try to inventory or Mount the tapes.

Can anyone help??

Thanks

Device Manager is on the server. Right click My Computer select Manage, Device Manager. Both the library and tape drives should be disabled and the system restarted.
