When we eject a tape using BrightStor, export it and import a new tape, BrightStor will nto let us re-inventory a single tape to redetect the tape name. We end up having to STOP/START the Tape function to force it to reinventory all 8 tapes in the carousel... why is this?

Are you doing this through the library's interface or through ARCserve? If you do it through ARCserve you should have less trouble, but I'm not sure since I haven't seen this before.

I spent a few hours on the phone with CA support today, and they suggested I update the firmware on the server's SCSI card and the HP Thinstor drive... After some more testing however, I found that if I insert the replacement tape during the export process on the drie itself, Broghtstor allows me to re-inventory that single slot...

I don't always agree that upgrading the firmware is necessary. You can check the certified device list to see what CA used when they tested the device. If you have an old version then upgrading is suggested. Upgrading past the listed version is not always good. That can cause problems at times.
