How can I tell what type of licensing was installed on SBS 2000? The licensing applet in Control Panel doesn't work. I can tell I've got 45 installed, but I am wondering if it is per-server or per-seat.

I have the odd workstation complaining about the network not being available, and I've checked the computers added to the server, and there's only 32/45.

I don't know if licensing is causing these issues, but I'd like to determine if it is a possibility. Given the number, at this point I don't believe so. We have far less PCs than users so it's not possible for them to be logged on at the same time.

That's not likely a licensing issue.

Check the DNS settings on that workstation. They should point ONLY to the SBS box. Nothing else.

Thanks for the reply 58sniper.

I've checked the DNS settings, and there are as they should be.

We have other devices on the network other than PCs as well, but the only thing they do is DHCP, then the workstations access them directly. Does this take up a license as well? If it does, this could be the problem.

What other devices. If I remember Microsoft licensing 101 correctly, any device - computers, printers, etc. require a CAL.

The other devices would be printers. Why would they require a CAL? I don't understand that. If I have to, I'll configure them as static if that's the case... other than DHCP the printers shouldn't connect with the server at all!

I can understand workstations as they use file sharing and other services besides DHCP.

Well, for some reason, removing and re-adding the computer to the domain solved it.

Not sure why, but the problem is now gone.
