detection of an HP surestore dat 40

i just installed and configured an hp netserver e800 with an hp surestore dat40. I have a raid controller installed as well.

no matter what i seem to do, i can't get the system to detect the tape drive. any ideas?

What have you done so far because I have a similar setup and have just recently installed a 40e?
