Is there a way to create more interesting, fun or creative icons than the simple manila folder icon? Some programs and files were deleted during system maintenance and after re-installation the icons somehow were replaced by the "folder". This was on a WIN95 system. I would also like to create more interesting shortcut icons on another, WIN98 system.

Hi Corker;

You need to right click on the icon you want to change, then click on properties, then click on change icon.
Some programs have alternate icons built in or you can use the browse button.

corker,

Here's a few freeware "folder changers":

FolderIcon

and here's folder to go with it:

Change Icon:
Change Icon uses a function that came with Internet explorer 4 to allow customize the appearance of folders in the interface. With Change Icon, its easy to modify each folder icon individually.

And E-Icons freeware version:
E-Icons 98, one of the most powerful and easy to use icon customisation tool, lets you customise the shell icons on your system easly and quickly! E-Icons makes it a snap to change almost any of the standard Windows 95/98/NT icons, these include ones for the Desktop, Start Menu, Drives, Folders and Files. It lets you also use icon themes so you can change all icons at once or create your own themes, and it gives you the great opportunty to assign an icon to any folder or any drive. If you love to customize the way your system looks, E-Icons 98 would be the right utility for you!
