Desktop Icons Not Showing Up

I have a D600 computer and for some reason everytime I boot up my computer and log in, it just sits there with no icons. I only see the color of my screen (which is blue at the moment). I have to manually reboot b/c it won't go through, no matter how much I wait. Its been happening for the last 3 days.. nothing new has been installed and no upgrades have been made.

Any suggestions on why this is happening? Thanks!!

This assumes that Ctrl-Alt-Del will bring up Task Manager, and you can use File, New Task Run

Also, does the problem exist if you start in Safe Mode?(Hit the F8 key early and often when the system starts).

Hi Again,

It doesn't happen in Safe Mode. I have not tried the website you gave me yet. It is only a problem the first time of the day. When I hard-power it down, then turn it back on, it works fine. I don't seem to be getting any hard disk activity when the problem occurs. Why it works the second time through is beyond me. Hmm.
