For some reason, anytime I double click a desktop icon, all my icons disappear, and then the desktop seems to reset itself, with all IE or Windows Explorer windows closing before the system comes back up.

I read on a forum that this may be a result of spyware, so I ran Spybot 1.2 and removed all spyware from my computer. Spybot runs, but hangs up for a long time when looking for C2.lop It finally moves past it, and completes, and finds nothing.

I additionally searched the registry for any reference to C2.lop, and find nothing. This may not be related.

Is there another helpful version of spyware that would help.

I have also installed all critical and security updates on this machine, as well as SP1.

I have scanned the machine, and it is virus free.

Thoughts?

Dan

As of this point, I have run Spybot and Spyhunter, and every suggested program in the above article.

You may have better luck deciphering the actual log in the virus forum.

Make sure your options in IE/ Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced are correct.

Uncheck the boxes for "Install on Demand" for IE and Other programs (two boxes).

Try running temporarily with the third box "Enable Third Party Browser Extensions" unchecked and see how this goes.

"This specifies that you want to disable features you installed for use with Internet Explorer that may have been created by companies other than Microsoft.
If you encounter problems with Internet Explorer that you cannot resolve, you can use this option to help determine if third-party features are causing the problems without uninstalling the feature. You must restart Internet Explorer after turning this option on or off."

If that stops your errors, you will know where the trouble is.

This article and the program BHOcop might be useful to you.
