We have a Windows Server 2003 domain. All servers are running SP1. A GPO redirects user desktops to a folder within our DATA share on the main file server. Sharing permissions are set to FULL, but NTFS permissions on this folder containing the redirected desktop are set to READ-ONLY for general users. When setting the GPO to redirect user desktops, I found that all users had permission to create and delete files from their desktop. Since many users shared this redirected folder, al users would see the files being added or deleted. Configuring the permissions to specifically DENY write permissions fixed this, but shouldn't the general NTFS READ-ONLY permissions worked? Does a redirected folder add write permissions automatically? I've searched the Microsoft site for an answer, but fond nothing as of yet.

Thanks!

By default users are given the necessary permissions to manage their redirected desktop. So this is normal.
