Designate an icon using package & deployment?

I am using the package and deployment wizard and right now when I install the access runtime program I developed on a computer it puts the shortcut with the "access key" icon. When I open the program it then changes it to the designated icon I assigned to it. Does any one have any suggestions how to have the assigned icon show up all the time?

When you originally build your db you may have set an icon for it. In the steps of the P&D wizard, you are offered to include additional files. This is where you would include the file and the path to your icon. You usually point to AppPath, so place your icon in the same location as where you'll be placing the Db. Gord

ghubbell , I also use the P&D for creating installs. I have included the custom icon and pointed it towards (AppPath), however on install it uses the Access "key icon". Can you edit the install scritp to point to your icon? Thanks

Hi FireTek, I guess somehow you could although I've never done it or had to. When you create the Db originally and set its icon, make sure the icon is "living" in a similar directory ~ path to the path you assign in the P&D:

I build my Dbs in C:\Database.

I will "P&D" to C:\Program files\GordsDatabases on other computers.

so on my computer I make a folder C:\Program files\GordsDatabases
and place the icon(s) in it.

Any Db I build that has an icon from that directory, will look for the icon in that directory. This doesn't get around people that don't choose the suggested directory, but for the other 99.9% of people it works fine and is simple. Works for me!?! Gord

One solution! There is a app. called shortcut.exe that is located on the windows95 installation CD. look under the Admin\Apptools\Envvars folder. This is a dos app to create,edit,overwrite any shortcuts. Write a batch file and when you are creating your install package, where the wizard asked for command to run after install, insert the path to your .bat file.

One example,
shortcut -f -n "name of icon or path" -t target file to start -i icon file path
(-n is the name of the shortcut),(-t is the target file),(-i is the icon file you want to us)
